Växjö is home to 76,000 people. Although you can sense its long history in the city centre, the pervasive atmosphere is one of youthfulness. Växjö is expanding, unemployment is low and the level of education is high. And everything is within cycling distance – the locals care about the environment and their health.

Växjö is a modern urban centre that has grown up around the lakes that give it its unique personality. Recent decades have seen a steady influx of new residents, partly due to a favourable business climate that has attracted many companies to set up in the region.

Växjö’s schools and educational institutions have always been a powerful magnet. Low unemployment figures also indicate growth. Many companies in both traditional lines of business and the IT sector need well qualified staff. In recent years approximately 400 IT companies have set up in Växjö.

The commercial heart is centred around the bustling pedestrian precincts with their shops, restaurants and nearby stages for theatre, music and other cultural events. Sweden’s only glass museum represents one aspect of the region’s tradition of handicrafts, which is also evident in locally designed and manufactured furniture.

Växjö has a long tradition in sporting history and several world-famous names in athletics and tennis began their careers in Växjö. Just outside the centre there are training facilities for tennis, golf, football, ice hockey and athletics.

In summer the lakes and islands beckon. Cycle paths take you swiftly out into the countryside where there are opportunities for swimming, boating and windsurfing in the lakes.
