Before coming to Växjö, I worked at Uppsala University, the City University of Stockholm and the Johnson Foundation. I did my PhD at Uppsala University on Swedish politics in 1993, and in preparing the dissertation I also spent a semester at the Johns Hopkins University taking courses in political theory.

My research interests today are democracy and institutions, institutions and development, conservation and development and also Swedish politics and political theory. I am also an Affiliated Faculty member at the Workshop for political theory and policy analysis at Indiana University, and have been a visiting scholar at the London School of Economics and Political Science and at the University of Hyderabad.
